COFFEE
Coorg is a region well known for its coffee and The Children's Project is currently located on a thirteen-acre mountainside coffee plantation. This offers many dimensions for unique academic learning.

The plantation is a beautiful haven, nature's classroom, rich in bird, animal and plant life. Our coffee is shade-grown, which has been recognized by the Smithsonian Institute as being an important agricultural development to ensure the survival of many rare species of birds. It also allows us to produce an organic, chemical free coffee that is rich in flavor, but kind to mother nature.

A working coffee plantation is also a thriving business and coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world, after petroleum. We foresee a number of study courses evolving over time, including economics. Most immediately, the children will learn about the agricultural care required to grow and prepare coffee for shipment to the roasters.

We are in the process of developing our own coffee brand, 'Awaken', which eventually will be roasted on site, packaged and shipped to point of purchase. Into this we will incorporate courses in business and marketing, where the children learn the steps required to deliver a product to the customer.

In a recent course, Dharmic Business, the children explored establishing their own entrepreneurial venture, the "Awaken Café", a specialty coffee restaurant in our local town of Madikeri. The café would serve the local people as well as the many tourists who come to Coorg each year.

True education promotes humility and through humility, you acquire the deservedness to engage in professions. Deservedness confers prosperity. A prosperous person has the capacity for undertaking acts of charity and right living. Right living will confer happiness here and hereafter.
