GUIDELINES FOR VISITORS & VOLUNTEERS
Our intention at The Children's Project is not just to foster ideas and skills in the children, but to help them learn to cultivate dharma (right action) and love in all activities. All adults are encouraged to understand that they are models for the children. We ask that they do their best to exemplify the Human Values of Peace, Love, Truth, Right Action and Non-violence at all times during their stay.

Because our school is comprised mostly of young girls, it is necessary to model utmost discretion and modesty while in their presence.

  • Dress Code: Our older girls dress in traditional India suits with dupattas, but western dress is acceptable for visitors. However, we request that our men and women guests refrain from wearing clothes that are revealing such as shorts, low neck-line blouses and shirts, tank tops, sleeveless shirts or anything tightly-fitting. Long dresses, full-length pants or saris are acceptable for women, particularly in Puttaparthi.

  • Modesty: We discourage our visitors and couple guests from public displays of affection such as kissing or any other conduct having any romantic implications, or any inappropriate behavior, while on the premises or elsewhere while in the presence of the children.

  • Discretion: Since this is a place of spiritual learning we don't consider The Children's Project to be a place for romantic opportunities and therefore discourage it.

  • No Substances: We do not allow alcohol, illegal drugs and cigarettes on the premises or while in the company of the children during trips off-site.

  • Food: The children adhere to a vegetarian diet and no non-veg items are to be brought into the property or fed to the children.

  • Religion: We follow the teachings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, that all religions are facets of the same truth and therefore to be respected. We make no attempt to influence anyone along the lines of belief, culture or creed and request the same courtesy.

  • Gifts: We request that permission be granted to you before giving any of the children gifts, food, etc. Please ask us first.

  • Pets: We highly discourage our visitors from adopting or bringing pets onto the property of The Children's Project or off-site accommodations. As we keep our own animals, this is for the safety and health of all.

  • Respect All: Children are expected to show full respect to adults, addressing them as "Uncle" or "Aunty". We in turn request visitors to show respect to the children.

  • Discipline: Any problem that seems to require discipline is to be referred to the school's directors or, if they are not available, senior staff.

  • Friends: Please request permission of one of the school's directors before inviting any friends to visit, or if you are a teacher, to sit in on any of your classes.

Above all realize that children are precious treasures. Yours is the great task of rearing them to become devoted servants of God and sincere spiritual aspirants.
