Devi came to us when she was 1 1/2 years old.
She was living on the streets of Puttaparthi and sleeping in the bus station. Her mother is deaf and has a mental problem. She was a nice woman but could not take care of Devi so she brought her to us. Devi had many signs of malnutrition including ash colored skin and very wrinkled eyes.  Devi had learned to beg already. Before she came to us she was following customers at the outdoor shops and asking them for bananas and biscuits etc… When she came in the house she used to stand near us in the kitchen and even after finishing her meal she would repeatedly say, Banana! Banana! Banana! This would go on and on! It does show her spirit! She is very determined and quickly formed a deep bond with all of us here. She is a VERY smart girl and can read and write at only 4 years old. She is very clear in her mind and many times speaking with her is like speaking to a small adult who is filled with joy.  She is a very healthy girl and very loving girl. She is very social but always looks to her adults and teacher for guidance.
