Role Models
It is the aim of CPT that each and every child, once finished with his/her education, should be a strong role model of an ideal citizen, not only of India, but of the world. Our curriculum is designed to give students exposure to a broad range of thoughts and activities to help them understand the processes that go on within in the global community and their own role in it as human beings.

We consider certain social behaviors to be universal. Things like common courtesy, responsibility, unity of thought word and action and honesty transcend culture and help a person to become a good citizen of the world. A lack of personal accountability is prevalent in most of the children when they first arrive. We teach them to 'show-up'. They soon learn that 'nothing' is not an acceptable answer to the question, "What were you doing?" and find that a straightforward and truthful response brings them a deeper sense of self-acceptance, courage and love. We also offer training in life skills that are not gender-biased. Boys and girls equally learn about cooking, sewing, gardening, ecology and current events. At that same time, we believe in helping our girls grow into self-reliant women who can take care of themselves in the world instead of being forced by necessity into an unsatisfactory marriage.

As much as possible, the children are sensitized to the conditions of the world. We expose them to the practices that go into making a strong culture, village, home and nation. We teach about the social practices of diverse cultures and groups in a non-judgmental way while still pointing out the high road that is best for all: a path of respect and equality for men, women and children from all levels of society. The children have great experience in these areas as they have been most affected by hurtful social behaviors of discrimination and neglect. They can easily understand the fact that all are equal and should be treated so.

The children receive an education in personal health care as well as social health practices. As role models, it is important they understand the reality of world health issues as well as conditions within the villages of India. For example, while HIV is a major threat everywhere, the dangers are more pronounced in India where education in procreation and childbirth is often taboo or in the hands of village midwives.

Higher Learning
The change that occurs in the children who come to this program is nothing short of miraculous. After arriving with histories of unspeakable neglect and abuse, they can now imagine a bright future where they are happy and fulfilled.

Being fostered in an environment that is so conducive to the development of human values and intelligent understanding prepares the child to make a strong contribution to society. Where, is up to them, and we give them our full support to follow their dreams. Our entire educational process is geared not just to help a child complete the necessary state degree requirements for secondary education, but to give him/her the confidence to find a calling from within. Our human values based educational model encourages children to explore their inner values, skills, interests and aspirations so they are truly prepared to make a powerful offering to any society of which they are a part. In many cases this will be directly at the village level.

First and foremost, we are committed to supporting the children up through college and beyond. A number of children have expressed the wish to further their education so they will be able to return to The Children's Project as a guide to other destitute children who need a helping hand. Some would like to be social workers or teachers. Others would like to be doctors of veterinary medicine, while one young woman yearns to be an airline pilot. Some of these educational needs will be met on-site at CPT through distance learning programs, while other children will be sponsored at institutions of higher learning in India.

As a holistic community, CPT offers many opportunities for the children once they complete their secondary education. For some higher education may take the form of vocational training or an apprenticeship in an area of their own interest in one of CPT's enterprises.

It is our goal that all the children become confident and productive members of the society they live in. We encourage them to realize that when their imagination and effort come together with divine grace - anything is possible.

The boys and girls of today should realise this basic truth: they represent the future of humanity. They are the guardians of a nation's culture. The greatness and prosperity of a country depend on them. A nation's future will be determined by how the lives of the young children are shaped.

The deepest fear is that we cannot do anything. The deepest fear is that we can do anything once we know and once we see it.
