SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
The educational philosophy at CPT has been developed along the principles given by Sathya Sai Baba, who advocates not just education, but something he has named, 'Educare'.

In his words...
What is the root meaning of education? The word is derived from the Latin root 'Educare' What does it mean? It means to bring out what is inside. What is it that has to be brought out? Every form of knowledge and capacity is latent in man. He is endowed with all types of potentialities - physical, mental, spiritual and ethical. The true aim of education is to make explicit the innate powers of man. These are two types. One relates to the knowledge of external things and the organ that manifest this power is the head (brain). The organ that enables one to bring out the inner knowledge is the heart. The former relates to physical existence while the latter to higher learning or living in its true sense. Life will become ideal only when both these types of knowledge are made to manifest in harmony.
~ SATHYA SAI BABA

A main principle of Educare is that the spark of divinity, with all of its potentials, is already present within each child. A teacher does not so much instruct as facilitate the unfolding of the child's latent potentials and spirit. This allows a child to see that all life is one. It is then easy to love and live in peace and happiness. Within this vision the child's intellect is also sharpened and all life skills come alive in the right context.

Education In Human Values (EHV), conceived by Sathya Sai Baba and developed through the Sathya Sai Educational Institutes worldwide, is a values-based program that fosters this kind of awakening. Through practices like prayer, meditation, storytelling, drama, singing and other interactive activities, the children learn to understand and live the five universal human values of love, peace, right action, truth and non-violence. All our educators use activities, exercises, games and discussions, not rote repetition. In this way, the children learn how to think for themselves and how to apply knowledge for positive living.

The five core human values and their sub-values are woven throughout all the lessons plans as well as our daily living at CPT. On a surface level they may be reflected in the selection of books, math problems, discussions on history or science lessons, creative writing, etc. On a subtle level, the teacher strengthens the student's character by being closely involved with them and nurturing the development of their mind, heart and approach to life. Difficulties are used as learning opportunities for children to identify misunderstandings that lead to wrong action, which in turn provoke unpleasant reactions in their fellow students. This allows a child to employ values such as equality, integrity, compassion and patience in order to resolve a disagreement. Teachers guide them along those lines and the students quickly become comfortable with this process, learning to trust the teacher as a loving mediator. After experiencing positive conflict resolution they can easily understand why it is preferred and make it part of their own character.

If human values take root in the educational system, the emerging individuals will have the following attributes: they will want peace and justice in a world that acknowledges the rule of law and in which no nation or individual need live in fear; freedom and self reliance to be available to all; the dignity and work of every person to be recognized and safeguarded; all people to be given an opportunity to achieve their best in life; and they will seek equality before the law and the equality of opportunity for all.

Educare means being aware of the consciousness latent in all.

Oh, Swami!
Let me be myself
Help me forgive
Let me forget the things you don't want
Let my bad thoughts wash into my tears
Let my sadness flow into my laughter
Let my happiness become air
Ho! Swami, let my studies
Become gold in the hands of you
Please let me learn more.
