 OUR FAMILY
The Children's Project is much more than a school; it's a home and extended family. We are modeled after the "gurukul" of centuries past - the traditional forest residential school of India where teachers and students live, learn and grow together towards spiritual awakening and human excellence. In and out of class, teachers act as positive role models, strengthening the students' characters by continually nurturing the development of the children's minds, hearts and approaches to life.
Permanent resident and local teachers provide the love, continuity and stability that are the hallmarks of a true home - something most of the children have never before experienced. Our visiting teacher program draws individuals from all over the world, giving the children an opportunity to experience that they are part of a larger global community and a brother and sister in the family of man.
Man is soul as well as body, and at CPT we practice living with awareness of the universal spirit residing in all forms. Our animals and the pristine environment of Coorg are also vital members of our family. The ability to live in harmony with other beings - animal and human - as well as the natural world builds confidence in the children. With self-confidence they learn to feel good about giving of themselves to society for the good of the whole. The willingness to sacrifice is at the heart of what makes us human, lifting us up above the animal, pointing us towards the divine.
